Roman Torres almost fully vindicated by LevyFilms footage of red card incident

Shot from behind the play appears to show Torres making a clean play on the ball.

The TV replays seemed to make the case pretty strongly that Roman Torres did not deserve a red card in Sunday’s match against the LA Galaxy. For whatever reason, though, VAR did not overturn the call.

But after seeing LevyFilms’ replay of the incident (toward the end of the video above), the case for Torres being unjustly punished is even stronger. With the aid of added frame rate over the broadcast, we can actually see that Torres made a clean play on the ball and that Jermaine Jones effectively went down without contact.

We still haven’t heard whether or not the Sounders appealed the decision to the Disciplinary Committee, but hopefully someone has seen footage as compelling as this to help make their case.

That’s not the only moment from this package in which Torres plays a starring role. The highlights also show what an amazing play the hulking center back made on the Sounders’ lone goal, hitting a perfectly placed sliding volley to set up Lamar Neagle’s equalizer.
