Sounders win red card appeal, Román Torres available against FC Dallas

Independent review board apparently disagreed with VAR.

Heading into another key Western Conference match, the Seattle Sounders will not be without Roman Torres after successfully appealling to the Independent Review Panel about the 89th minute red card against the LA Galaxy. The Panel unanimously agreed with the Sounders — Torres did not commit a foul that should be considered DOGSO. The panel consists of a member of PRO, USSF, and the Canadian Soccer Association.

Torres is now eligible to play in Saturday’s match against FC Dallas.

Seattle won their appeal based on two key arguments, according to SoundersFC.com;

1. [Jermaine] Jones appeared to be moving toward the left and away from the goal.

2. Seattle defender Chad Marshall was in a position to make a play.

This was the Sounders’ first attempt to appeal a red this season. As it was successful, they still have, at minimum, two future appeals available (should they fail to win those cases).

Starting at 3:40 you can see the sequence which ended in the call by Drew Fischer. Seattle Sounders finished the match down a man, drawing 1-1 with the LA Galaxy.
