Nicolas Lodeiro and Luis Suárez happen to be good friends. They hang out when they can, like when both represent Uruguay in World Cup qualifying. As we know, Suárez rooted for the Seattle Sounders in MLS Cup and there should be little surprise that the Barcelona great wanted to see Nico’s star.
Yes, that’s another recruiting pitch from Lodeiro to Luis about Seattle. It’s not the first time Nico’s tried to get Suárez to consider the Sounders.
And it doesn’t seem like it will be his last. Maybe this isn’t a joke. Maybe this is the greatest soft-sell in soccer transfer history. Suárez is one of the world’s top talents, but at his age is nothing like what Garth Lagerwey looks for in potential DPs. There are also significant issues regarding Suárez’ temperament (multiple biting incidents, Patrice Evra racial abuse) that would likely reduce Seattle’s interest in such a high profile signing with little marketing cache.
Yet, Luis Suárez is immensely talented. He is the greatest player on one of the top teams in the world in national team play. In club play he is slightly overshadowed by Messi and well, Barcelona happens to have a lot of the world’s best.
It makes little sense for Adrian Hanauer, Joe Roth & Co to blow up their budget to bring in one of Nicolas Lodeiro’s good friends. This would be nothing like the signing of Alvaro Fernandez (who also happens to know Suárez).
Don’t consider this a rumor. Consider it more a flight of fancy by a player who has grown to love the Puget Sound and wants to share it with everyone.
