Tacoma Stars announced some more signings prior to their tryouts in the lead up to their 2017-18 season. Adding defenders Troy Petersen and Chase Hanson, along with midfielders Derek “El Tigre” Johnson and Duncan McCormick and forward Alex Megson, GM-Coach Darren Sawatzky keeps core players with indoor experience.
The Stars announced that Federal Way native Troy Peterson will rejoin a veteran Stars defense. Petersen, who played outdoor last summer with the Sounders FC U23s, will look to improve on his 4 MASL goals from the 2016-17 campaign.
They also welcome back midfielder Derek Johnson. Johnson spent the summer in Sumner with the Sounders U23s, playing 1,047 minutes across all 14 matches. He scored 2 goals and had 3 assists in PDL action.
Johnson is looking forward to the season, saying, “I want to improve on my execution in the attacking third. I felt like I left a few on the table. It will take lots of focus and concentration.”
Defender Chase Hanson, who contributed 3 goals and 5 assists last season, also returns to his local side after spending some time with the Sounders U23s. He did not appear in competitive PDL action in 2017.
The Stars leading points earner from last season, Alex Megson, is also returning to the Stars. Chipping in 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 total points, Megson looks to lead what should be a potent offense.
Duncan McCormick is also returning to the Stars. McCormick is the son of former Tacoma Stars midfielder Dick McCormick. Duncan will look to add depth to the offense and defense for the Stars. He didn’t play for the Stars in 2016-17, but was there with them in their first full season (‘15-16). He played two seasons in the USL with Sounders FC 2 and Arizona United.
Remember that your chance to tryout for a pro soccer team is on Friday, Sept. 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. It is $50 to tryout for the team.
