Teasing the final at PAX East in Boston on April 5-8, MLS released a micro video about its new esports endeavor: eMLS. The league will feature 19 of their teams, including the Seattle Sounders, as the best FIFA 18 players compete for a chance to become world champions. New York City FC already has a couple esports competitors, but the rest of the participants will have to grow their team.

The competitive events will only have one athlete each, so making the squad will be tough. The winner of the eMLS Cup will qualify for the global eWorld Cup.

“This step forward into competitive gaming is a key component in our partnership with EA Sports to promote deeper engagement and connections between MLS supporters and millions of FIFA players around the world,” said MLS Business Ventures President and Managing Director Gary Stevenson in a press release.

Previously, Seattle qualified a competitor through a competition at The NINETY, with one of those entries coming through the SonarFeed FIFA Tournament.

IF NYCFC are an indication, these athletes will be paid some amount, so it may be too late to start preparing yourself to become a Sounders FC eplayer. The announcement about qualification could come at any time.

An MLS spokesperson told Polygon that “some teams may choose to have multiple players represent them.” However, clubs can send just one player to eMLS events.

MLS teams LAFC, Atlanta, RSL and DC are not part of the initial field.
