Surprise! There’s a Sounders match right now!

Seattle takes on the Tijuana U-20 side in a pre-season warmup

The Seattle Sounders sprung a fine surprise on everyone this morning: they’re kicking off the pre-season today with a friendly against the Tijuana U-20 side in Chula Vista, California. It’s an interesting mixed lineup of certain and fringe starters, with Stefan Frei, Roman Torres, and Clint Dempsey all getting the call.

Also of note: Jordan McCrary, late of Toronto FC II, recent homegrown signing Handwalla Bwana, and offseason acquisition Waylon Francis are getting the runout, and Harry Shipp appears to be getting some time in a CDM role if this is maintaining the familiar 4-2-3-1 shape.
