One of our favorite community projects is The Rankinator. The project asks you which player most contributed to the Seattle Sounders 2018 season. We are only concerned with First Team players in the Rankinator. Every player listed was on a First Team contract during a portion of the 2018 season.
Their 59 points and +15 goal differential were good for 4th in the league, 2nd in the Western Conference. They had the 2nd best defense (by goals against average) and the 13th best offense. Seattle had the 13th best home record and were 4th best on the road. They returned to the playoffs for the 10th straight season while setting a record length of winning streak and had the best second half of a season in MLS history.
Sounders fell out of the US Open Cup in the fourth round, losing their only match. They went 2-2-0 +1 in the CONACAF Champions League, losing in the quarterfinals. Chad Marshall made the MLS 2018 Best XI.
For your assistance the Rankinator includes First Team minutes. It is designed to be used on desktop, many (most?) phones and tablets may not interact with the drag and drop functionality.
Again, the request is to rank players by answering the question “Who contributed most to the success of the 2018 Seattle Sounders?”
