SEATTLE — Perhaps lost in what was a thrilling match with a gut-punch ending was an absolutely amazing goal by Raúl Ruidíaz that could well go down as one of the best in MLS playoff history.
The Peruvian striker had already scored once before, temporarily putting the Sounders in a position to advance past the Portland Timbers. But as the game went into stoppage time, the Sounders needed another to keep their season alive.
Ruidíaz delivered, big time. His full volley from 16 yards wasn’t particularly well placed, but it was hit so hard that Jeff Attinella had no hope of stopping it.

That was Ruidíaz’s third goal of this postseason and his 13th in 16 appearances for the Sounders. If you’re looking for a reason to be excited about next season, just think about what he might be able to do with an actual offseason and a full preseason of integrating with teammates.
