Seattle Reign FC announced today that they have signed Spanish international defender/midfielder Celia Jiménez Delgado to a contract for the 2019 NWSL season.

“Signing with Reign FC to compete in the NWSL is a dream come true,” said Jiménez in a team release. “I am excited to become the best player I can be to help my team reach their 2019 season goals.”

Jiménez was selected by Seattle in the fourth round of the 2018 NWSL College Draft, but stayed at the University of Alabama until June 2018 to complete her degree in aerospace engineering. After graduation, she trained with Reign FC and played for Seattle Sounders Women, where she helped lead the team to the 2018 WPSL Championship, scoring the game-winning goal in the final.

Following the WPSL season, Jiménez signed with FC Rosengård in the Damallsvenskan in Sweden. To date, she has made nine appearances for the club and scored one goal.

Internationally, Jiménez has 19 caps for the Spanish national team, including three starts at the 2015 World Cup and four appearances in 2019 UEFA World Cup qualifiers, and she is anticipated to be part of Spain’s roster for the 2019 World Cup. She also played extensively for Spain’s U17 and U19 women’s national teams, scoring four goals to help lead Spain to a second-place finish in the 2013/14 UEFA U19 Women’s Championship.

“We’re excited to have Celia back with Reign FC next year,” said head coach Vlatko Andonovski in a team release. “She’s an intelligent player and I know she’ll have an impact on our team in 2019.”
