Seattle Reign FC announced this week that two players have re-signed with the club for the 2019 season. Midfielder Morgan Andrews and forward Jasmyne Spencer, both newcomers in 2018, will return to Seattle for the upcoming season.

Spencer, 28, came to Seattle last season through a trade with the Orlando Pride, where she made 40 appearances, scored seven goals, and provided four assists. She appeared in 23 of Reign FC’s 25 matches — scoring two goals, including the lone Reign FC goal in the NWSL semifinal match against the Portland Thorns.

The forward, who is currently on loan to Melbourne City FC in Australia, began the 2018 season as an impact sub before working her way into a starting role. Her tenacity, speed, and work rate made her a threat on the wings.

“Jasmyne came in and had an immediate impact on our club last year,” said Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Her speed is a valuable weapon for us and her energy and toughness on the pitch make her a great player to coach.”

Andrews, 23, was selected with the third overall pick by the Boston Breakers in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. She played one season there before being acquired by Reign FC in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft. In 2018, Andrews was primarily used as a substitute or backup option in a full midfield, which included Jess Fishlock, Allie Long, and Rumi Utsugi. She showed promising aggression and a strong ability to switch the field of play in her 16 midfield appearances and seven starts.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be back with my team,” Andrews said. “I consider Seattle and the Reign organization to be another home for me, and I look forward to making an impact next season for the team and for our fans.”

Both players should have an increased role in 2019, as the club deals with player absences related to the World Cup. Up to 10 players could represent their countries next summer in France.

With Spencer and Andrews re-signing for 2019, Seattle Reign FC now has 17 players under contract for the upcoming season. In addition to signing Elise Kellond-Knight and Celia Jiménez Delgado this offseason, the club exercised contract options for goalkeepers Lydia Williams and Michelle Betos, defenders Lauren Barnes, Theresa Nielsen, Christen Westphal, Alyssa Kleiner, and Steph Catley, midfielders Jess Fishlock, Elizabeth Addo and Rumi Utsugi, and forwards Nahomi Kawasumi, Jodie Taylor and Jaycie Johnson.

Defenders Kristen McNabb, Yael Averbuch and Megan Oyster, midfielder Bev Yanez, and forward Kiersten Dallstream are all out of contract and have either received or are expected to receive new contract offers. USA forward Megan Rapinoe and USA midfielder Allie Long, as well as Canadian forward Adriana Leon, remain on the club’s roster as Federation Players.
