The Sounder at Heart Annual Awards wrap up with voting for the Moment of the Year in 2018. Past winners, in order from ‘09 to ‘17, are: fans meeting the team after winning the Open Cup in DC; Nyassi’s brace to win the Open Cup repeat; Alonso’s dagger to earn Open Cup three-peat; Zakuani returns to MLS play & exchanges jerseys with Mullan; Traore’s goal to draw level with Tigres in CCL play; Pappa pickpockets Pinedo to secure the Supporters’ Shield; the Red Card Wedding; The Save; Roldan caps 4-3 comeback win over D.C. United.

The question is simply, which moment will you remember for years to come? In 2018 we will run four groups of nominees, with the winners of each group and maybe an alternate advancing. Moments from the Seattle Reign, Seattle Sounders, S2 and the Academy are included this season.

Lydia Williams versus North Carolina Courage

Facing the greatest team of the 2018 NWSL season, Williams managed to stifle an impressive offense with 12 saves. She kept the match close, but it ended in a 1-1 draw.

Azriel Gonzalez’s first goal

Once upon a time he was the youngest signee in Sounders history. Since then they’ve signed a few younger players, but of the teen phenoms Azriel was the first to score, and it was the winner in a 3-2 match. Azriel was just 16 at the time.

Sounders 2 gives fans pineapples

When the Tacoma Rainiers took over the business operations of S2 there were questions about just what it would mean for the fan experience. Casey Catherwood and his creative team were the ones who brought Perry the Peanut and a menagerie of mascots to the Tacoma Stars. For S2 they regularly played a game called “What’s in the bag?” On April 11 that meant pineapples. Why pineapples? Only Casey knows.

Will Bruin’s winner against Minnesota United

Down 1-0 entering stoppage time, the Seattle Sounders looked dead on the road. Instead Nicolas Lodeiro slotted in a penalty and then Will Bruin clinched the miracle comeback.

Raúl Ruidíaz’s first goal, on his birthday

Coming off of four wins in a row, the Seattle Sounders were on the road at San Jose. After sixty minutes Seattle looked slow and tired. They were on short rest. They managed to steal a result behind the Peruvian’s excellent chest trap and strike.

Kim Kee-hee, centerback, executes a picture-perfect Cryuff turn

Of course the Seattle Sounders dominated Houston Dynamo late in the season. Seattle was busy setting a league record for second half performance at the time. What stunned everyone, including his teammates, was when Kim Kee-hee stunted.
