The Sounder at Heart Annual Awards wrap up with voting for the Moment of the Year in 2018. Past winners, in order from ‘09 to ‘17, are: fans meeting the team after winning the Open Cup in DC; Nyassi’s brace to win the Open Cup repeat; Alonso’s dagger to earn Open Cup three-peat; Zakuani returns to MLS play & exchanges jerseys with Mullan; Traore’s goal to draw level with Tigres in CCL play; Pappa pickpockets Pinedo to secure the Supporters’ Shield; the Red Card Wedding; The Save; Roldan caps 4-3 comeback win over D.C. United.

The question is simply, which moment will you remember for years to come?

In 2018 we will run four groups of nominees, with the winners of each group and maybe an alternate advancing. Moments from the Seattle Reign, Seattle Sounders, S2 and the Academy are included this season.

Megan Rapinoe’s winner v Utah Royals FC

In a match that was supposed to be defined by Laura Harvey’s return, ‘Pinoe took control of the narrative. Her headed goal was from a crafty corner set piece that shifted roles and put one of America’s best in a different position. She won the far post header, and the match.

Shandon Hopeau caps comeback from 4-1 deficit in 4-4 draw

In a season when results often didn’t go the right way, there was one match that showed the Sounders spirit. S2 was down 4-1 after 56 minutes. The young squad could have given up, but instead Henry Wingo, David Estrada and Shandon Hopeau had other thoughts. Hopeau netted the 4th right at the final whistle. This was a draw that felt like a win.

Raúl Ruidíaz’s winner v San Jose to take 2nd in West

There was a point when all but the most loyal had lost hope, then the summer of Sounders started. Raúl Ruidíaz came and scored and scored and scored. It was his last regular season goal that ensured victory, even if the team had already secured second in the West and 4th overall. The goal was pretty, but maybe not as pretty as the players mobbing Sounder at Heart photographer Max Aquino.

The Save 2.0

Stefan Frei deserved to win the Goalkeeper of the Year. MLS didn’t get that one right, but they did get it right on the voting for the Save of the Year. Frei had two that were worth the win, but his July 4th save is the one that won 2018’s award.
