This is the Seattle Sounders’ sixth trip, and their fifth of the MLS era, to the championship of CONCACAF. Their best finish to this date is to make the CONCACAF Champions League semi-finals. Under the new format for the CCL they start in the 2018 Round of 16 by virtue of winning the 2016 MLS Cup. Their opponent is El Salvador’s best team, Santa Tecla.
Santa Tecla holds a 2-1 lead after two goals by Gerson Mayén. Seattle’s road goal was by Nicolas Lodeiro.
In leg two Brian Schmetzer’s side opened up for four goals. Will Bruin, Nicolas Lodeiro, Chad Marshall and Magnus Wolff Eikrem all scored.
The Sounders host Chivas de Guadalajara on March 7 at 7 p.m.
