Nico Lodeiro’s 50-yard chip gives Sounders lead

What a goal!

Short-handed or not, the Seattle Sounders picked up a huge road goal when Nicolas Lodeiro scored a nearly 50-yard chip in the 15th minute.

Although Lodeiro deserves much of the credit on the goal for noticing the Santa Tecla goalkeeper off his line and perfectly placing his shot, the sequence was created through some strong counter-attacking play. Jordan Morris pushed the ball ahead to Henry Wingo, forcing the defender to clear the ball blindly. The ball perfectly to Lodeiro, who lofted the shot with his first touch.

That was Lodeiro’s first CONCACAF Champions League goal but his 10th in international cup competition. He’s now scored in all five of the international club competitions in which he’s competed.
