Say what you will about how it actually looks, but the new Seattle Sounders primary kits are going to be unique. Seriously. Each of the new kits will be slightly different from one another, featuring a sponge-effect. Although Dutch giants Ajax has a similar-looking jersey, the Sounders will be the only team in the world sporting a rave green version.
In addition to the unique look of each jersey, there are a few other elements that should be of particular interest to Sounders fans. One is the necktape, which features the Sounder at Heart motto “You will hear us.” This was put there at the suggestion of the Alliance Council and with the blessing of Sounder at Heart. The other is the jocktag on the front, which commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the Alliance Council.
“It’s a way for the fans to be integrated into the jerseys and know that we do hear them and we do love it,” Will Bruin said in a team release.
In addition to the fan-focused elements, the new shirts also feature a permanent silver star. Although replicas don’t features the same star, they can be added after purchase.
The Sounders’ secondary kit will remain as the white “Heritage” shirt, and there will be no third kit for the first time since 2009.
This jersey has been dubbed “The New Rave Green” and will be made available to the public during a launch event on Saturday from 10 AM - 1 PM at the CenturyLink Field ProShop.
