Sounders at Chivas CONCACAF Champions League, live stream: Seattle falls 3-0 in Mexico, gets knocked out of CCL

CCL run ends with humbling 3-1 aggregate loss.

Max Aquino / Sounder at Heart

Full-time. 3-0 Chivas, 3-1 on aggregate. The Sounders held on for a half and looked like they might squeak through, but the injuries and physical play of their opponents eventually wore them down. Three unanswered second half goals proved to be the MLS side’s downfall, and the Sounders are officially knocked out of the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League.

It gets worse. Chivas goal in the 80th. 3-1 aggrgate.

Another goal for Chivas, 55th minute 2-1 on aggregate.

Goal Chivas, shortly after halftime. A brilliantly fired set piece that Stefan Frei couldn’t really do much about 1-1 on aggregate. If score holds, it goes straight to penalty kicks.

Halftime update: This is all you really need to know.

Another unforunate substitution for the Sounders around the 35th minute as Kim Kee-Hee comes on for an injured Chad Marshall.

An unfortunate early substitution for the Sounders as Lamar Neagle enters for Will Bruin, who had to leave with a head injury.

Seattle Sounders are looking to return to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals for the second time while extending the MLS win streak over Liga MX in 2018. Standing in their way is a struggling Chivas Guadalajara squad lacking a few of their best players due to a combination of injury and suspension.

Wins on Mexican soil are still rare. New York Red Bulls took the third-ever win by MLS in Mexico last week. Seattle had the second ever win, several years ago. Toronto FC advanced in their quarterfinal, but did not win in Mexico.

Sounders, as well, are lacking a few key players while facing one of the hemisphere’s historic clubs. Their one-goal lead will be magnified if Brian Schmetzer’s side can manage an away goal. Any one-goal loss in which the Sounders score would result in Seattle advancing to face Red Bulls. Any win or draw would also see Seattle move on. A 1-nil loss would force kicks from the spot to determine a winner.

Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension
