Four Sounders called up for international friendlies

No surprises as we learn who will go globetrotting to play for their countries while Seattle has a bye week.

After the FC Dallas match, most of the Seattle Sounders have a week off to rest and recuperate, but Cristian Roldan, Roman Torres, Gustav Svensson and Jordy Delem will be heading off to join their respective national teams during the FIFA international break.

Roldan was named to the 22-man USMNT squad that will take on Paraguay March 27 in Cary, North Carolina. This will be a chance for the midfielder to earn his third international cap for the US and solidify his spot as a regular with the team.

Delem journeys to Martinique to join their group as they face Trinidad & Tobago (yes, Joevin Jones got the callup for the Soca Warriors) at home on March 24.

Our two Sounders on World-Cup-bound national teams will head to Europe as their teams prepare for global competition. Svensson seems more and more likely to make the final squad for Russia, as Sweden has called him in to face Chile on March 24 and Romania on March 27. Meanwhile, Panamanian hero Roman Torres joins Los Canaleros as they test themselves against the Danish and Swiss national teams on March 22 and 27, respectively.

Nicolas Lodeiro, normally a likely candidate for the Uruguayan national team, was replaced on their callup list as he recovers from his mid-right foot sprain.

All the players called up are expected back in time for Seattle’s next match, the March 31 home game against the Montreal Impact, albeit with a few more frequent-flier miles and an extra match or two under their belts.
