Roman Torres has been called into Panama’s national team for a pair of March friendlies. Los Canaleros will visit Denmark (March 22) and Switzerland (March 27) as they continue preparation for this summer’s World Cup.
The call-ups should not cost him any time with the Sounders, though. The Sounders play at FC Dallas on March 18 and then don’t play again until they host the Montreal Impact on March 31. This is the last international window before the World Cup in June.
Torres was a huge reason why Panama qualified for their first-ever World Cup, scoring the goal that put them there while serving as a defensive anchor. How heavily Torres features in these matches is a bit of an unknown as he’s been struggling with fitness for the Sounders so far and has been limited to just 135 minutes in two appearances. Torres was also one of the less used players in preseason matches as he regained fitness following his offseason.
