For the second consecutive year, the Seattle Sounders will wear Earth Day-inspired kits produced by Parley. Last year was the first year that MLS teams wore the Parley jerseys, with the Sounders one of four sides selected. They beat the LA Galaxy 3-0 that day.
This year, every team playing on Earth Day weekend — the Sounders will host Minnesota United on April 22 — will be wearing one of two available kits. The Sounders will be wearing the non-dyed version, while United will wear a carbon-colored jersey. Unlike last year’s version, this year’s appear to have significant color differentiation and will also be available to purchase.
The jerseys are designed to help raise awareness of the harmful impact of marine plastic pollution. Parley Ocean Plastic is made from so-called “upcycled” materials found on beaches and other coastal communities.
