S2 continues to make good on their promise to promote players from the Sounders Academy, signing 16-year-old Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez to a full USL contract on Tuesday. Ocampo-Chavez joined the Sounders Academy from Merced Atlas last year, and has established himself as one of the program’s top scoring threats.
This year, Ocampo-Chavez has seven goals in 10 appearances for the Sounders U15/16 and U18/19 teams in USSDA competition. He also won the Golden Boot at the 2017 Youdon Tournament with eight goals.
“Alfonso is a talented young player who has had success in our Academy and with various national teams. Signing with S2 gives him the opportunity to train and play at the professional level,” Sounders Director of Player Development Marc Nicholls said in a press release. “He is still very young and this signing further confirms the club’s commitment to the development of our bright players with potential.”
Ocampo-Chavez’s signing gives S2 14 players under contract, eight of whom are teenagers. Ocampo-Chavez is the seventh Sounders Academy product to join the roster.
