Talk about your team’s effort tonight?

I am just looking at duels won, they had 52 we had 48 but that is just a stat. The boys put it in tonight, they worked, they ran and covered a lot of ground. They had to because Toronto is good at what they normally do.

Do you think a win like this was coming, with either a training or the attitude from the guys?

I would say this club is always a proud a club, we always fight, we never give up. Results like this come from that mentality, that type of mindset. It is within our club, it’s been like that since Kasey Keller has been here in 09 and that will always be there. So you are going to get performances like this and sometimes you are going to be on the right end of the scoreline. But then down in LAFC, I think we put it in there as well but unfortunately we weren’t. So that is the sport, the game, and tonight we were the fortunate ones.

How much of boost does this give you moving forward into the weekend?

It’s massive. Toronto has been a good rival. It is a great club and we have a good rivalry here. I enjoy my chess matches with Greg (Vanney). I think he has done a great job with this club but now it is on to the next rival and that is a big one for us, a little closer to home, a little less travel time. So we’ll get them back up and prepare for that.

Talk about how big of a win this is for a franchise at this point in time in the season?

It’s fantastic, I mean we’re playing probably one of the best teams in the history of MLS with the lineup that we came out with. A dedicated group who wanted the result from the first minute. It plays into out next game which is against another big team, a rival. We just have to rest our bodies and build off of this win against Portland.

Talk about the defending you did and how much energy it takes out of you?

Yeah it’s tough, it felt like we defended for 90 minutes, but once you can get that lead it’s much nicer defending. Will was massive in that way, took his first chance and scored. Once you have a lot of young guys who are committed to defending the whole game it makes your job a bit easier because you know someone will be there to cover you.

To start tonight what were your directions from coach?

Attacking going forward, they wanted me to drive the defenders and get in behind as much as I can, open the space for the midfielders and keep possession once it’s in their half.

Your goal you looked like a veteran coming in on Alex Bono, what were your thoughts as you approached Bono?

It was just the perfect ball, all I had to do was finish it. The funny thing is I was actually having a good finishing session the day before so I was feeling kind good.

What did it feel like to score?

It’s an unbelievable moment, it’s a kid dream scoring your first professional goal. I didn’t do it without my team and the most important thing was getting that 3 on the board.
