Kleiner played collegiately for Santa Clara and helped lead the Broncos to an NCAA playoff berth in 2013, but went undrafted in 2015. She was a non-roster invitee for the Portland Thorns that season and earned her first NWSL minutes as an amateur call-up before signing a contract with the Thorns in the middle of the season. In total, she made 8 appearances for Portland and tallied one assist.
Prior to the 2016 season she was traded to the Washington Spirit in exchange for defender Katherine Reynolds. Over the next two seasons with the Spirit, Kleiner made 35 appearances, scoring 1 goal and assisting on another. She was waived by the Spirit in February of this year, and has apparently been on Seattle’s radar since that time.
“We are excited to add Alyssa to our roster – we have been trying to find a way to bring her to Seattle for several months, so we are happy we were finally able to make it happen,” said Reign FC Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski in a team release. “Alyssa will bring depth and add pace to our back line, complementing a group that has performed well this season.”
Kleiner will be available for selection in Saturday’s game against Portland.
“I’m excited to put forth whatever I can to help the team,” Kleiner said. “I played there my rookie season, so it’s been a while. I’m excited to possibly get back there on the field.”
