LINEUPS: Osvaldo Alonso returns to the starting lineup for the first time since May 5 as part of a 5-4-1 lineup and play alongside Cristian Roldan. Tony Alfaro is probably the biggest surprise among those starters, as he’ll play on the left side of a three center back formation. Victor Rodriguez, Will Bruin and Nicolas Lodeiro also get their second starts of the week, while Jordan McCrary and Waylon Francis are the other new additions from the group that beat D.C. United.
Two of the top defensive teams in the league face off on JOEtv tonight (5 PM). The New York Red Bulls are famous for their press, whereas the Seattle Sounders absorb pressure until the opposition gets about 25 yards out and then build a wall. RBNY is younger and faster, though a poorer passing team, than the struggling Sounders side.
Seattle may have a bit of momentum and their healthy players are the types that can pass around a press rather than run by it. After tonight’s game Sounders get ten days to rest and hope.
Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension
Seattle: Bwana, Leerdam, Morris, and Neagle are all out. No one is listed as questionable.
RBNY: Kyle Duncan is out. Vincent Bezecourt is listed as questionable. Kaku Gamarra is off with Paraguay playing pre-World Cup fodder for qualifying teams.
Osvaldo Alonso is a single yellow card from accumulation suspension. Tim Parker, Nouhou, and Jordy Delem are two yellows away.
Michael Murillo (PAN), Fidel Escobar (PAN), Gustav Svensson (SWE), and Roman Torres (PAN) are all away at the World Cup.
Allen Chapman is the center referee. Jorge Gonzalez is the video referee.
