Fresh off news that Raúl Ruidíaz was joining the Seattle Sounders in Atlanta, it now appears that Gustav Svensson will be there too. Svensson’s Instagram Story says he’s in the United States and based on the volume of Delta planes in the background, it seems safe to say he’s probably in Atlanta. (The Sounders’ Instagram Story basically confirms this.)

Like Ruidíaz, it’s not quite clear what type of role Svensson might be able to play when the Sounders visit Atlanta United on Sunday. Although he’s surely fit after playing 132 minutes during the World Cup, the reality is that he’ll likely only get one training session with the Sounders after being gone for about seven weeks.
Unlike Ruidíaz, however, Svensson likely won’t need much time to acclimate to his teammates. It doesn’t seem out of the question that he could return to a starting role with such limited training time, especially in a match where the Sounders are likely to be defending for their lives.
