Updates and highlights

Update full time: A quiet final ten minutes after the red sees the Sounders out with a 2-0 victory.

Update 79’: Efrain Juarez takes out Lodeiro for a yellow, then decides it’s a good idea to body up center referee Chris Penso and earns himself a quick second yellow. Seattle are now up a man.

Update 60’: Raul Ruidiaz finally makes his long awaited debut, subbing on for Will Bruin.

Update 45’+: Penso whistles for handball on Marshall, but VAR immediately calls down. Nothing but a shoulder, and the penalty is waved off.

Update 44’: Victor Rodriguez drops to the ground and stays down. Comes off holding his right hamstring and looks to be done. Schmetzer chooses to go further defensive and puts in Osvaldo Alonso.

Update 33’: Lodeiro takes a bit of a speculative shot from distance that gets Stefan Marinović going the wrong way. Marinović had already started his dive and was only able to slow the deflected ball before it went in.

Update 16/17’: Doneil Henry gets a yellow for a late tackle on Lodeiro, who was nearly away for a long run to goal.

And Nouhou responds with his own bad tackle for a yellow right back.

Update 4’: Penal! Whitecaps handle the ball in the box.

Lodeiro steps up and slots it home!

Update pregame: it’s the dreaded white kits.

Lining the Salish Sea are two teams that do rivalry a bit differently than most in North America. There is little acrimony. Instead the rivalry between the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps is more like two neighbors competing to have the best Christmas lights.

Vancouver is a bad team with a mediocre record. Seattle is a mediocre team with a bad record and a recent signing that might indicate they have hope.

Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension

Seattle: Jordan McCrary is suspended. Jordan Morris and Handwalla Bwana are out. Roman Torres is questionable. No other injuries are listed.

Whitecaps: Kendall Waston is listed as questionable.

Osvaldo Alonso and Jordy Delem are a single yellow card away from accumulation suspension. The following players are two yellows away from the same — Nouhou, Cristian Roldan, Jordan McCrary, Kendall Waston, Jose Aja, Yordy Reyna.

Chris Penso is the center referee. His video assistant is Allen Chapman.

Keys to the Game:

  • Tacticale Nautilique. This means play Harry Shipp and let him focus on the mission.
  • Green Lantern should start, by himself, and do the super things this superhero is capable of.
  • Mark Kamara on set-pieces.
