Seattle Reign v. Houston Dash: Gamethread and updates

The three-game homestand continues for Seattle.

Mike Russell / Sounder at Heart

Quick recap: Hosting the Houston Dash at home, Seattle took awhile to settle into the match and let the Dash slip ahead in the 12th minute, when Amber Brooks connected on a corner kick. But Jodie Taylor equalized in the 37th minute, and after that, it was all Seattle Reign FC. Megan Rapinoe would bury a penalty kick earned by Elizabeth Addo, and then assist on a great one-touch goal scored by Allie Long. Taylor also had plenty of chances to put one or two more in the back of the net.

It’s a quick turnaround for Seattle, who host the Utah Royals on Wednesday. They’ll have plenty of momentum against the Royals and Laura Harvey.

Seattle Reign FC will host the Houston Dash this Saturday night at Memorial Stadium and will look to avenge their first ever loss to the Dash that happened earlier this season. The match kicks off at 7 PM PT and will stream on the go90 platform.

The match is Seattle’s second in a three-game homestand, which concludes on Wednesday with a match against the Utah Royals.

Reign FC is coming off a complete team performance last weekend, where they defeated rival Portland Thorns 1-0 through a last-minute Jodie Taylor goal. Houston, meanwhile, scored two quick goals to come from behind and beat the Orlando Pride on the road.

While Houston may be sitting in seventh, they are a team still competing for one of the four playoff spots. The middle of the table is separated by just a few points — a win will help Seattle get even more separation from Houston and the other teams that sit just under Reign FC.

Houston is organized defensively and can be lethal in transition. But if Reign FC scores early, moves the ball effectively, and keeps the pressure on Houston all 90 minutes, the home side should be able to control the match and earn a win.
