FULL-TIME: It wasn’t necessarily their best performance, but the Seattle Sounders ran their winning streak to five games, their unbeaten streak to eight games and are now within three points of the playoff line after beating first-place FC Dallas 2-1 on Sunday.
The game ended in a bit of flurry after a red card to Reto Zeigler and a couple hard fouls on Sounders as they tried to run out the clock in the corner, leading to referee Ted Unkel whistling full-time seemingly a bit early. Players and coaches then scuffled a bit at the center circle while walking off the pitch.
SOUNDERS 2, FC DALLAS 1: Nicolas Lodeiro’s goals this year have rarely been pretty, but he sure has been scoring a lot of them lately. His fifth goal in six games came on a free kick that fooled Jesse Gonzalez, who clearly played it as a cross and got stuck in no-man’s land when no one touched it.
What a goal. Surely he meant to do that. pic.twitter.com/WgnDkMabHY

SOUNDERS 1, FC DALLAS 1: A bit of a slow start to the second half by the Sounders came back to bite them when Max Urruti made a nice touch inside the box and fed it to Michael Barrios on the wing. Barrios then whipped in a cross that Dominique Badji chested into the goal.

SOUNDERS 1, FC DALLAS 0: Chad Marshall scored his second goal of the season, hitting a glancing header off a Nicolas Lodeiro corner kick in the 41st minute. It was the Sounders’ 10th corner kick of the match. It was Marshall’s second goal of the season and Lodeiro’s seventh assist.
Just a textbook Chad Marshall goal. pic.twitter.com/1ILdJrrGlT

LINEUPS: Brad Smith will start in his Sounders debut, while Nouhou was left off the gameday roster entirely. Also notable is the return of Victor Rodriguez to the 18 and the absence of Clint Dempsey, who is listed on the injury report as having lower back pain.
A Sounder never quits. That’s the attitude that Brian Schmetzer wants from his team. It may go so far as his guiding philosophy — belief in each other, togetherness, passion, hope. Sure, there are soccer things that the Seattle Sounders coach believes, but it is his attitude that helps the side recover from poor starts and go on improbable runs.
The latest obstacle is FC Dallas. They are the best team in the West, one of the best on the road. They are younger, maybe even more skilled. But they are a team of annual collapse. Seattle’s next stop on the red line express is at CenturyLink Field, on FS1 at 7 PM, and the chance for a home victory.
Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension
Seattle: Jordan Morris remains out. Handwalla Bwana, Clint Dempsey and Victor Rodriguez are questionable.
Toros: Santiago Mosquera is out.
Jordy Delem and Nouhou are a single yellow card from a suspension due to accumulation. Osvaldo Alonso, Nicolas Lodeiro, Cristian Roldan, Jordan McCrary, Matt Hedges, Carlos Gruezo, Roland Lamah, and Dominique Badji are two yellows away from the same.
Ted Unkel is the center referee. His video assistant is Edvin Jurisevic.
