UPDATE: Turns out there’s not much to this rumor after all. Niko Moreno just talked to Velez president Sergio Rapisarda, who told him that there are no ongoing negotiations with the Sounders or anyone else about Delgadillo.
With time running out to secure reinforcements for the stretch run, the Seattle Sounders are reportedly trying to sign 20-year-old Argentinian forward Nicolás Delgadillo on a loan from C.A. Vélez Sarsfield of the Argentine Primera Division.
Delgadillo appears to have fallen out of favor recently after a promising season as an 18-year-old. In 2016-17, Delgadillo made 15 Primera Division appearances, but then dropped to 10 last year and only played 310 minutes. At one point, he was supposedly scouted by Spanish powers Real Madrid and Valencia. His profile suggests he’s a wide player who has primarily been used in a three-forward setup.
Chances are, the Sounders see Delgadillo as an addition more with an eye toward next season and beyond rather than as someone who would provide immediate help.
