Sounders challenging Chad Marshall’s red card

On Sportsradio KJR, coach Brian Schmetzer said he expects Seattle to win the appeal.

Just a few minutes into Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer’s weekly radio appearance, the subject of Chad Marshall’s red card in the victory over Sporting Kansas City came up. “It’s under appeal,” coach said. He followed that up by saying he should not go into detail.

Schmetzer then went into detail about why the call surprised him, and finished by saying, “I’m pretty confident that that’s going to get overturned.”

Marshall’s 81’ red card was only the second of his career.

The three-time MLS Defender of the Year is not known to ride the line between foul and booking. On Instant Replay, Matt Doyle says, “In no world should this be a red card.”

Seattle Sounders have a post-shootout era record with eight straight wins. Having a potential MLS Defender of the Year for their key match against the Vancouver Whitecaps could be huge. That Sept. 15, 7 PM match on JOEtv could also win Seattle a Cascadia Cup.
