In what will almost certainly be their final preseason game before First Kick, the Seattle Sounders will visit the San Jose Earthquakes on Feb. 23. The match comes just a few days after the Sounders host Uruguay’s Nacional on Feb. 20, meaning this match will likely be a virtual split-squad affair with few, if any, players starting both games.
While it may not prove to be much of a preview of what’s to come, it should still provide a good test as the Earthquakes are more likely to be using a full complement of starters. This will mark the only time this preseason that the Earthquakes are playing a MLS opponent in front of fans (they play LAFC in a closed-door scrimmage a week prior).
The Sounders, by contrast, will play five matches in front of fans throughout the preseason, including four matches against MLS opponents and the other against the reigning champion of the Uruguayan Primera Division.
