Any hope that the Seattle Sounders might be able to field something like a first-choice lineup in both their Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 matches and their MLS regular-season opener was effectively extinguished on Friday. The Sounders’ first two CCL matches of the 2020 tournament will both take place on Thursdays with the road leg on Feb. 20 and the home leg scheduled for Feb. 27, just three days before the season opener.
Three of the five MLS teams involved in CCL will be in a similar predicament, including LAFC who effectively have the same schedule with games on Feb. 27 and March 1. One notable difference is that LAFC’s first CCL game is on a Tuesday, meaning they have two extra days of rest before their second leg match.
Two MLS teams, however, lucked out a bit. Atlanta United will play their CCL matches on Feb. 18 and 25, while playing their season opener against Nashville SC on Feb. 29. New York City FC will play on Feb. 20 and Feb. 26, before opening their MLS season on March 1.
Tickets for the Sounders home leg of the CCL series will be included in season tickets.
