FULL-TIME: The Seattle Sounders rolled out a starting lineup that featured at most two starters playing in their primary positions and probably got the result they deserved in losing 2-0 to Uruguay’s Nacional on Wednesday. The loss dropped the Sounders to 0-4-0 in preseason with next Saturday’s friendly against the San Jose Earthquakes serving as their final warmup before the MLS season kicks off with a home match against FC Cincinnati on March 2.
It’s the only home match of preseason. This friendly against Nacional of Uruguay gives the Seattle Sounders a warmup against Nicolas Lodeiro’s boyhood club and the opportunity for CenturyLink Field to work through any issues with their new value menu.
The likely opening day starters should not be expected to get much playing time. To quote Brian Schmetzer it is a “work day”, so they are able to play, but not a full game. They are being prepped for the March 2 season opener against FC Cincinnati (yes Cinci, that’s in Seattle and it’s your first match). Rotational players and those with Tacoma Defiance will likely get a significant run.
