Sounders at San Jose Earthquakes, preseason: Game time, schedule, how to watch

New, 294 comments

It’s the final preseason game. Watch with us.

Full Time: Preseason ended with the Sounders finally earning a point. The 2-2 draw against the Earthquakes featured 30-minutes playing down a man when Kelvin Leerdam was sent off, two penalties that Wondolowski buried and flashes of a Seattle attack that can create danger through speed or build-up play.

Roman Torres played the final few minutes, his second appearance this preseason.

Brad Smith only played a half due to injury.

Sounders: 2 Rodriguez (Morris), Rodriguez
Earthquakes: 2 Wondo, Wondo

Ejection: Leerdam

UPDATE 61’: Chris Wondolowski won a penalty and buried it. Kelvin Leerdam was sent off with a red card on the second penalty that Wondo won.

Sounders: 2 Rodriguez (Morris), Rodriguez
Earthquakes: 2 Wondo, Wondo

UPDATE 57’: Chris Wondolowski won a penalty and buried it.

Sounders: 2 Rodriguez (Morris), Rodriguez
Earthquakes: 1 Wondo

UPDATE 52’: While the second goal wouldn’t count in Tucson during preseason, or during the regular season, against the ‘Quakes Victor Rodriguez’ goal counts. There’s no VAR on the clearly offside goal. Oh well.

At half Nouhou entered for the injured Brad Smith. The severity of the injury is unknown.

Sounders: 2 Rodriguez (Morris), Rodriguez
Earthquakes: 0

UPDATE 32’: Jordan Morris sprinting down the right with the ball at his feet is something Seattle Sounders fans will like in the early going. He ran right by one defender and then while shoulder-to-shoulder with Judson gained enough of the corner to feed Victor Rodriguez with a cutback pass that was easily slapped into goal.

Sounders: 1 Rodriguez (Morris)
Earthquakes: 0

If you think San Jose Earthquakes are a bad team you remember their last few seasons. You may have also missed them hiring one of Liga MX’s best coaches and re-inventing their lineup with three additions from outside of the league. Seattle Sounders will get their first test against a team that should be expected to be better, if not a significant threat for the expanded MLS Cup Playoffs.

Head coach Brian Schmetzer will use his starters heavily, as their first real match is on March 2 (7 p.m, FS1). With a starting lineup that only has a single starting role being debated the establishment of that XI began early in preseason and was maintained throughout.

The Sounders have lost every preseason matches to this point, while San Jose lost to their USL Championship affiliate (Reno) and beat LAFC.
