Reign FC announced today that the team has waived Ghanaian international forward Elizabeth Addo. The move was made in agreement with Addo, who received an offer to play in the Chinese Women’s Super League.

“Elizabeth informed us that she has an opportunity to play in China that will be beneficial to her and her family,” said Reign FC owner and president Bill Predmore in a team press release. “She asked for our assistance in making the move and we are supportive of her request. We appreciate her efforts on behalf of Reign FC last season and wish her well.”

Addo was signed by the Boston Breakers in the 2017-18 NWSL off-season, and joined Reign FC via the dispersal draft after the Breakers folded. She made 13 appearances for Seattle in 2018, including 8 starts, and had one assist in the final game of the regular season at Portland.

Addo’s release in order to move to China was one of several announced by NWSL teams on Tuesday, as South African internationals Linda Motlhalo and Thembi Kgatlana were likewise waived by the Houston Dash.

Addo expressed her appreciation and said goodbye to her Reign FC teammates and fans in a tweet early on Tuesday morning.

With the move, Reign FC now has 22 players under contract for the 2019 season, including 5 internationals.
