Jordan Morris has been called back to the United States national team. This marks Morris’ first call-up since the preseason camp before the 2018 season. He’ll be joined by Seattle Sounders teammate Cristian Roldan for matches against Ecuador on March 21 and Chile on March 26. DeAndre Yedlin will also be in the group, giving the Sounders three USMNT representatives for the first time since June 11, 2017.
This shouldn’t impact their availability with the Sounders, who have the week off between Saturday’s match against the Chicago Fire and their March 30 visit to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Jordy Delem was also called in and Nicolas Lodeiro is expected to be called up during this window.
The group called in by head coach Gregg Berhalter is a bit of a hybrid between the group called in for the most recent January camp and what might be considered a fully first-choice selection. Eight players from UEFA leagues are supplemented by 16 players from MLS and one from Mexico. Among the notable absences are Josh Sargent and Tim Weah, who are both expected to be with the U23 group.
“We thought it was important to tie some of the themes of last camp into this next camp and to have some consistency in the personnel made a lot of sense,” Berhalter said in a statement. “Again, we still think we’re able to evaluate a new group of players and we think that is going to be valuable as we move into the Gold Cup.”
