Jacket won’t be for sale, it turns out...

UPDATE: This jacket is NOT for sale. A Sounders official just informed us that the image in question is an actual jacket from the 1980s and not one they or adidas are currently planning to reproduce for resale.

On Wednesday night, the Seattle Sounders FC will host the San Jose Earthquakes for Heritage night. The club has been highlighting their history on social media — including one particular post featuring Brian Schmetzer as both player and coach — but it’s been a little unclear how exactly they planned to commemorate the past.

One of the plans was for a heritage-themed giveaway. The first 12,000 fans in the stadium, it was announced, would be receiving hats with a throwback logo. The hats are sharp, but maybe not to everyone’s taste. There was speculation about what other merchandise might be available for purchase. The Sounders website has mention of heritage gear, but no where to buy them, only links to Pro Shop locations. Then, on Monday, the team posted a little teaser for what might be to come.

The picture showed a version of the same logo from the hat — the logo that appears on all of their Heritage Night content — on what appeared to be a jacket with the zipper visible. With the throwback logo and color combination, fans were eager to see what this was, and where they could buy one. The first part of that question has been answered now, thanks to another post this morning featuring Cristian Roldan modeling the jacket with the city skyline in the background.

While we don’t know how much it will cost, or where you can buy it — the Pro Shop is your best bet, but they may be available online after Wednesday — we do at least know what the jacket is. What Cristian is showcasing is a pretty classic Adidas track jacket. Instead of the tall collar of the most iconic Adidas track jacket — the Beckenbauer — this version sports a rounded collar like you might find on a bomber or varsity jacket. It’s a terrific touch for such a throwback-styled piece. This jacket, if you can get your hands on it, will add a nice touch of color to your everyday wardrobe and a cool contrast to your typical game day attire.
