Nicolas Lodeiro will be returning to the Seattle Sounders a bit earlier than expected, but it also means Raúl Ruidiaz will miss two additional games. The surprising turnabout was a result of Peru upsetting Uruguay in the Copa America quarterfinals, winning 5-4 in penalties on Saturday.
Lodeiro, who had started the first three matches for Uruguay, never got into the game. Ruidíaz, who had not played a single minute for Peru, was a late substitute and converted his penalty to help Peru advance.

The upshot is that Lodeiro will hopefully be rejoining the Sounders in time for their July 3 match against New York City FC. Ruidiaz, meanwhile, will have at least two more games to play with Peru. First, they’ll face Chile in the semifinals on July 3 and they’ll play either on July 6 in the third-place game or on July 7 in the final. He’ll miss the Sounders’ July 6 match at the Columbus Crew, but should be back in time for the home match against Atlanta United on July 14.
