FULL-TIME: Nicolas Lodeiro scored a brace — including the winner in the 96th minute — to lift the Sounders to their first road win in three months, a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the reeling Crew. The Sounders also stayed within two points of the Galaxy for second place in the Western Conference.
CREW 1, SOUNDERS 2: Nico Lodeiro gave the Sounders their first lead when he got open for a back post header off a Saad Abdul-Salaam throw-in.

VAR OVERRULES PENALTY: The Crew seemed to get a massive break in the 83rd minute when Chris Penso pointed to the spot on a very questionable handball against Danny Leyva. It was probably destined for review either way, but a scuffle between Artur and Lodeiro basically forced his hand. In the end, Penso gave yellows to both Artur and Lodeiro and waved off the penalty.
CREW 1, SOUNDERS 1: Just when it was starting to look dire for the Sounders, former Timbers midfielder David Guzman ran through Nicolas Lodeiro on a ball in the box. Drew Penso pointed to the spot and Lodeiro finished coolly.

CREW 1, SOUNDERS 0: Danny Leyva was whistled for a penalty after missing a tackle on Pedro Santos, who then converted the chance. Replays seemed to indicate that Leyva may have not made contact, but they were inconclusive. The Sounders had missed a couple very good chances earlier.

LINEUPS: The Sounders got Nicolas Lodeiro and Román Torres back, but still found themselves a bit short-handed due to Joevin Jones and Handwalla Bwana both being out for family reasons and several other players needing rest after playing twice in the previous week.
It’s officially the dog days of the MLS summer, and things aren’t going all too well for your Seattle Sounders. The Sounders have just one win in six, and that win came last weekend against Vancouver. Thankfully, the Sounders head to Columbus to take on Columbus Crew SC. The Crew have one win in eight, and prior to that were on a five game losing streak.

Keys to the Game:
- Simply put, this is a must win game for the Sounders. Their recent form has been bad, especially on the road. Columbus has an appalling record at home. The worst in the league, in fact, by picking up just 1 win in 8 tries.
- Columbus is riddled with injuries and international duty call ups. Add in that Zach Steffen is officially out and their new Gold Cup star keeper from Curacao can't join till next week, there are no excuses. Sounders must win.
- Score early. Seattle had some great early chances in New York but once they gave up a goal, it unraveled. Scoring early will be key to controlling the game.
