COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Seattle Sounders will be without one of their attacking threats for the matchup against the Columbus Crew.
Joevin Jones left the team after the game versus New York City FC to be present for the birth of his child. The left back/midfield started against NYCFC and played the full 90 minutes plus extra time. He returned to Trinidad and Tobago to be by his partner’s side.
Jones left with the team’s permission, and is expected to be back for the game next week’s game versus Atlanta United. As of time of publishing, it is unclear if Jones’ wife had delivered yet.
The loss of Jones will limit the Sounders attacking options for the game. However, given that he played the entire game against NYCFC midweek, it’s entirely possible he would have been rotated for the game against the Crew.
The Sounders’ lineup is buoyed by the return of Nicolas Lodeiro from national team duty, and Victor Rodriguez from a hamstring injury. Handwalla Bwana remains in Seattle tending to a family issue.
The game is currently under a thunderstorm watch, and it’s unclear if the came will start at the listed 7:30 p.m. kickoff local time.
