Nicolás Lodeiro doesn’t make the cut for Uruguay friendlies

Sounders could still be missing as many as five players for their Sept. 7 match against Rapids.

Update: After being called into the preliminary 24-man roster for Uruguay Nicolas Lodeiro has been dropped from the final squad for their upcoming matches against Costa Rica (9/6) and the United States (9/10).

The Sounders head to Colorado to take on the Rapids on September 7th, a match with huge playoff implications for Seattle. Not losing Lodeiro is a big boost for the Sounders.

Nicolás Lodeiro has been called into Uruguay for a pair of friendlies in September. Assuming he can’t negotiate to be left out of the first one, he’ll miss the Seattle Sounders match against the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 7. That match had originally been scheduled on April 10, but had to be moved due to snow storms.

Lodeiro probably isn’t the only Sounder who will be absent from that match. The United States plays friendlies against Mexico and Uruguay during that same international window — which means teams must release their players — which means Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan are also likely to be absent.

Other internationals who could be absent:

  • Jordy Delem’s Martinique and Joevin Jones’ Trinidad and Tobago have two games scheduled against one another on Sept. 6 and 10.
  • Gustav Svensson’s Sweden plays UEFA 2020 qualifiers on Sept. 5 and 8.
  • Raúl Ruidíaz’s Peru plays Brazil on Sept. 10.
