Scouting Report: A chance for redemption

Zlatan comes to Seattle.

MLS: Seattle Sounders FC at LA Galaxy Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

What You’ll Watch

The Seattle Sounders return home after a three-game road trip that saw them go 1-1-1. The Sounders will welcome the LA Galaxy, who they drew 2-2 on that road trip.

LA currently sits in fourth place, one point behind Seattle, in the Western Conference — with a record of 13-11-3 (42 points in 27 games played; 1.56 ppg). The Sounders sit in third place with a record of 12-8-7 (43 points in 27 games played; 1.59 ppg). Last time out, LA blew a 3-1 lead and drew 3-3 against LAFC while the Sounders earned a hard fought three points in their 2-1 win against Portland.

What to Watch

Not a lot has changed in the 2+ weeks since these two teams last faced off, so I recommend going back and reading the Scouting Report from the game in LA. However, I do want to highlight one player in particular: Cristian Pavon. Since signing the “TAM” (wink wink) player, the Galaxy have looked way less Zlatan dependant, and that was definitely evident when the Galaxy faced off against LAFC.

Pavon lines up on the left, which means he’ll be going at Saad Abdul-Salaam, who will be filling in for the suspended Kelvin Leerdam. Pavon is direct and loves to take people on; his dribbling on the ball will pull defenders in and create space for Zlatan. Abdul-Salaam will certainly have his hands full. I expect that Cristian Roldan will lineup at Right Mid to help with the defensive work load.
