Emanuel Cecchini’s loan to the Seattle Sounders is only awaiting the final signature of Malaga CF’s owner, according to a report in Malaga Hoy. The report also had quite a few details of Cecchini’s potential loan. Among the highlights:
- The loan would be through the 2020 season, not just six months as previously reported.
- The Sounders would pay a relatively small loan fee of $180,000.
- Seattle would also need to carry Cecchini’s full salary, which is apparently about $1.12 million.
- At the end of the loan, the Sounders have an option to buy 50 percent of Cecchini’s rights for about $2.24 million. It was not immediately clear if Malaga would retain the other half of his rights or if that’s all they bought when they paid a transfer fee of more than $5 million to Banfield two years ago.
Sounder at Heart has confirmed that Cecchini was due to arrive in Seattle on Monday. Assuming all parties sign off, an announcement would likely come on Wednesday or Thursday. The transfer window officially closes on Wednesday evening and all paperwork must be filed by then, but moves are often announced later.
