In some ways, this was a vintage Seattle Sounders performance. They had the advantage on possession, shots, duels and even xG. In the way it mattered most, however, they did not as the fell 3-1 to LAFC.

POST-MATCH QUOTES & SOUNDBYTES
SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On if they were the better team in this match:
“Well, obviously we weren’t based on the score line. You have to give LAFC credit they overcame some adversity with some early injuries and the ended up winning the game, so credit to them. The issue that we had with your question was how many scoring chances did we create? I felt there was a lot of them, I felt that there was… you know if you want to go tit for tat, I mean Kelvin [Leerdam] misses on the set piece that Nico [Lodeiro] delivers in the eighth or ninth or tenth minute, I don’t know. And then they go down and their guy puts it in. So two high quality chances, one team puts theirs away the other one doesn’t. Funny game in the sense that I just don’t know if we could have manufactured more quality chances it’s just you know today we didn’t put them in the back of the net. The third goal, you know, second goal, a bit of a scramble. First goal credit to them, you know, we know [Eduard] Atuesta’s good taking set pieces but the last couple of goals, yeah maybe we could have done better I’ll have to really digest the film, we were obviously pressing trying to get an equalizer, so, you know, sometimes that happens.”

On the early injuries/subs for LAFC:
“I think you’ve got [inaudible] have to come off. I don’t think it’s a game plan switch I think it’s more who you have on corners and set pieces. Before the game you know who you’re marking and then as soon as an injury comes there’s different substitutions in play there’s switching to different positions but we’re capable of dealing with all those things I don’t think that affected the game in any way. We just got to do better and fix the little details. We hopefully got a game in two days and we can make it right then and get a win and [inaudible].”

On not letting a result like this spiral:
“The good part of it is that we have a game in two days so it’s a chance for us to move on with that. Now we know what we’ve got. We know our team, we know our staff, we have confidence, so we know today that was a mistake and that happened. But we have to learn from this and move on, but we will.”
