Maybe the Seattle Sounders were simply due for a game like this one. Looking every bit as sloppy and sluggish as the field they were playing on, the Sounders struggled to create chances and fired off a season-low four shots. The good news was that they defended well and claimed a point.

POST-MATCH QUOTES & SOUNDBYTES
SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On if there are positives to this result:
“Yeah. I mean they’re – believe it or not there are some positives here. This is always a tricky place to play. I think San Jose has been one of our bogey teams for many years and certainly now with the unorthodox style, the field condition the way it is. You know, their desire to have a little redemption, revenge, whatever you want to call it, for the 7-1 loss - we knew it was going to be a hard game. But we kept a clean sheet, so that’s a positive. We had a chance at the end there, Jordan [Morris] coming in, did a great move around [Florian] Jungwirth. We had a couple other half chances. But, you know, there’s some positives out of it.”

On taking time to appreciate accomplishments in career:
“Well not in the moment; you’re not thinking about that in the moment. You wanted to get a good result today, you wanted to bounce back from our last game. You know, I thought we had an OK game. It was difficult; they are a dangerous side right now, a hungry side that wanted revenge. Also, one that’s just climbing out of a deep, dark hole, so their confidence is there, their hunger, their drive is there. So it’s a difficult, difficult match. From that perspective we wanted three points, but we got a point so I’m happy with that. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a shutout so kudos to the team for that. So there are some positives to take from it. I said in the pre-game media scrum a couple days ago that, you know, these are nice milestones, these are milestones for me personally that people from the outside are reminding me of so it’s not like I’m sitting there on a computer looking at my stats, but, yeah, I do take some pride in it because, I said this before when I had my injury in Toronto, you know sometimes people out there develop a narrative and call you injury-prone and I took offense to that. The only way that I think you prove you’re not injury-prone is that if you are able to get 250, and now career-wise now probably close to 400, matches under my belt, but I’m going to try to keep this going for as long as possible. Hopefully with some more ties and hopefully with many more wins.”
