Quotes
SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On the positives on a one goal victory:
“Plenty of positives, I mean MLS is a hard league, tough league, you know even though RSL brought some reserves out on the field, I mean three points is three points, no one is going to think about that at the end of the year when they are counting the points for the standings, playoff positioning, they are just going to say ok well they got three points out of that game. The game certainly could have been easier…I mean look, Cristian [Roldan] had a good chance, Nico [Lodeiro] put a ball you know…Cristian at the very end, Will Bruin, I mean I wish Will would have scored, I mean he deserved it, he worked really hard. But, plenty of positives, as far as I’m concerned.”
SOUNDERS FC GOALKEEPER STEFAN FREI – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On the importance of competing for the Supporter’s Shield:
“It’s an opportunity, it’s a goal, it’s something that is very difficult to achieve in any season, even this strange year, during this pandemic. So these are opportunities, you want to…I think I told the team that one thing that’s a strength of this squad and organization throughout has been staying even keel but the good thing and maybe even the difficult thing is to stay even keel at a high level. That’s what’s going to allow you to go for trophies. Whether that’s you know in playoffs going and making the push for the MLS Cup or the one where you have to be pretty darn good throughout the whole year in Supporter’s Shield to cap off a very, very good year throughout, so it’s certainly an opportunity, we’re there, we are seeing that we are in the picture to fight for that and then regardless, you know it goes hand in hand, if you’re going to end up in front then it’s going to put you in good seeding for the playoffs so we got to do our best in every game we can, get those points, keep chugging away.”
SOUNDERS FC DEFENDER YEIMAR GÓMEZ ANDRADE (THROUGH TRANSLATOR) – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On how is he able to help the team not just defending but also scoring:
“I am always happy to be able to support the team and help the team. And if I score a goal it’s even better, but my main role is to play on defense and be sure that I’m playing that well, and today we had a rounded game by actually getting the win so I’m very happy about that.”
