As expected, Gustav Svensson (Sweden) and Xavier Arreaga (Ecuador) have joined Raúl Ruidíaz on international duty. Ruidíaz’s inclusion in Peru’s roster was announced last week.
Arreaga and Svensson are expected to miss the Seattle Sounders’ first playoff game against Los Angeles FC on Nov. 24 while they quarantine. Sounders GM Garth Lagerwey said he expected Ruidíaz to be available, as MLS considers him a “recovered person” after previously contracting Covid-19.
All three players previously missed four games in October while on international duty and then serving a mandatory quarantine. LAFC will likely be without four players of their own, including Diego Rossi and Brian Rodriguez.
Svensson will join Sweden for one friendly (vs. Denmark on Wednesday) and two UEFA Nations League matches (vs. Croatia on Nov. 14 and France on Nov. 17). Svensson last played for Sweden on Oct. 8.
Arreaga has two World Cup qualifiers, on Wednesday against Bolivia and Nov. 17 against Colombia. Arreaga started both of Ecuador’s qualifiers during his last call-up.
Ruidíaz will play Chile on Friday and Argentina on Nov. 17. Ruidíaz started for Peru on Oct. 8 before missing their next game after testing positive for Covid-19.
