Gustav Svensson has apparently been medically cleared to play as he did not appear on the Seattle Sounders injury report ahead of Monday’s Western Conference final against Minnesota United. The only player to appear on the Sounders’ injury report is Danny Leyva, who’s listed out with a quad strain.
Svensson last played for the Sounders on Nov. 4, a 1-1 tie with the LA Galaxy. Svensson left the Sounders to join the Sweden national team shortly thereafter. He captained Sweden in a 2-0 loss to Denmark on Nov. 11 but did not play in either of their subsequent matches.
Svensson rejoined the Sounders on Nov. 19 and was expected to be available for the playoff game against Los Angeles FC, but was not medically cleared to participate. He also missed the FC Dallas match.
In Svensson’s place, Brian Schmetzer has chosen to deploy a defensive midfield of Cristian Roldan and João Paulo, with Joevin Jones at right midfielder. The Sounders have gone 5-1-0 and outscored opponents 18-5 in the matches those two have started in a double-pivot.
