As if blowing a 2-0 lead wasn’t enough reason to be frustrated, the Seattle Sounders were forced to swallow that result while knowing that the player who scored both of Olimpia’s goals probably should have been sent off earlier in the match.
During a 25th minute incident, Yustin Arboleda badly whiffed on an attempt to redirect a free kick and raked Stefan Frei across the chest with the bottom of his boots.

It was an undeniably dangerous attempt and easily worthy of a red card. Instead, the referee issued only a yellow and then gave one to Frei for good measure. Frei immediately showed his raked ribs to the referee, who apparently wasn’t interested in any visual evidence of the foul.
Frei shared this image on Twitter to further illustrate what happened.
