ESPN2 will be re-airing the June 25, 2017 match between the Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers at 7 PM on Wednesday as part of their Rivalry Week. If you need a refresher on why that game might be interesting, maybe this video will help jog your memory.
The game is most notable for the way it ended, as Clint Dempsey scored a late equalizer off a Román Torres cross. The 94th minute header was the latest result-changing goal in the rivalry’s MLS history. It was also Dempsey’s ninth — and last — career goal against the Timbers. The equalizer came after the Sounders had played the entire second half down a man after Brad Evans was shown a red card near the end of the first half.
Also notable about this game was that when Dempsey entered in the 57th minute, he was greeted by a full-stadium chant of “F*ck you, Dempsey”, which only served to make the goal all the more delicious.
