Puget Sound region has plenty of creative kits

From youth clubs to indoor teams, there are some really wonderful designs out there.

Max Aquino / Sounder at Heart

Between the Seattle Sounders and OL Reign, there have been some pretty amazing kits over the years. Neither team has been afraid to use extreme colors and get creative with their design elements. But if we’re being entirely honest, the non-first division teams around the region are sometimes even more bold and creative.

Here are some of our favorites in alphabetical order:

Lacey Pocket Gophers FC

I’ll be completely honest, I had never heard of Lacey Pocket Gophers FC until someone brought them up on Twitter. But ... I’m impressed. This Western Washington Premier League team is definitely rocking more a new-school look, but it works!

Seattle United

I’m just going to come out and say it: There are a lot of professional teams who could learn a thing or two from Seattle United’s look. Nothing too complicated, just simple and almost elegant. The crest is also better than like half of the pro teams in this country.

Seattle University

The Redhawks are working with a pretty basic palette but do well in not overthinking things. They mix in just enough white to make it work and have looked especially good in recent years.

Snohomish County FC

Apparently, there’s something about the WWPL that brings out creative kit designers, and Snohomish County FC let loose on theirs. Both the primary and secondary tops are pretty sharp, and I love how they’ve mixed and matched the shorts.

Tacoma Stars SC

Ever since the Tacoma Stars first came onto the scene nearly 40 years ago, they’ve essentially sported the same look. It’s no wonder why. The colors work wonderfully together, somehow giving them a retro look that doesn’t look remotely dated. The star pattern at the bottom has also proven itself wildly versatile, as they’ve done countless specialty jerseys over the years.

University of Washington

When purple is your dominant color, it’s hard to mess that up, and truth be told the Huskies mainly just get out of their own way and go with a solid look that is a crowd pleaser. In 2019, though, they stepped it up with three solid looks that were all impressive.

I’m sure we missed some really good ones. Feel free to tell us about it.
